The Rise and Fall of the Achilles Whale (2021)

The Achilles whale is a fictional creature, inspired by the modern airplane. Weeks of research went into this project and it had several tweaks along the way, but ultimately I wished to retell the stories of animals we have used for transport but dramatize it and take this to a whole new level. From afar, it looks as if it is a normal whale but upon closer inspection, you can see the flippers have become wings. I thought of the Greek myth of Achilles, whose entire body was untouchable apart from his heel. The whale had the same concept, but its wings are what becomes the biggest flaw. If it were not for the aero dynamism of the creature, the humans of this story would not have bothered to consider using the creature to fly.
